· Turn the valve to the right.

· Connect suction hose of the pump to the vacuum bag valve, confirming that the suction horse is set firmly in place.

· Evacuate air from the bag until the bag is firm, the valve must be closed. You will feel resistance on the pump handle and will notice the bag becoming rigid.

· Remove the suction hose from the valve after the vacuum mattress reached sufficient stability

· Adjustment can be made now, if necessary, to add stability or to make slight positional changes for patient comfort.

· Check straps for tightness.
